Library Media Center Remodel
During the 2014 summer I was given the opportunity to remodel the Wapello Elementary Library Media Center. The furniture was updated to provide all students, big or small, with access to the library materials. Extensive collection development and organization took place throughout the library and unsafe furniture and tall items where updated to lower safety conscious elementary friendly items. Signage was purchased throughout the library to promote more autonomous use of the Library Media Center. |
Accelerated Reader
The Accelerated Reader (AR) program is utilized in 3rd through 6th grades at Wapello Elementary school during the year to promote recreational reading and reading comprehension. Students in each grade are awarded small incentives upon achieving a certain amount of points during the school year. Students who have reached the maximum point goal are celebrated school wide at the end of the school year for their participation and determination to meet the reading goals set by the teachers and the Library Media Center. The Accelerated Reader program is also used to challenge the TAG students and special education students with level appropriate reading materials and quizzes.

5th & 6th Research Lessons
In collaboration with the 5th and 6th grade teachers, I stived to provide students with valuable research instruction. Lessons included plagiarism and resource evaluation. The foundational instruction ensures the future success of these students at the junior and senior high levels. 5th and 6th grade students also received additional instruction during their weekly Library Media Center time, which directly correlated to the K-12 Library Curriculum that I developed to support student learning and success. |
